This 1965 Morgan Plus 4 is a right-hand-drive model dispatched new on 21st of June 1965 to W.H. Falcey, Trenton, New Jersey, USA. The car starred in the Hollywood movie War of the Roses with Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner in 1989.

Then it was imported to the Netherlands and it was purchased by the seller in 2013. Although he has not registered the car, the car has been maintained since and runs well as you can see from the recent pictures in the gallery. Power comes from a 2.2-liter Triumph TR4 engine mated to a Moss 4-speed manual gearbox.

What is the most interesting fact about this car that this exact car starred in the Hollywood movie War of the Roses and was driven by Michael Douglas. The movie used three different Morgan Plus 4 cars. The first one was an unrestored car that was given as a present from Kathleen Turner to her husband Michael Douglas. It is not known what happened to this one. The second car is this one on sale, a 1965 model and it was used for the driving scene with Michael Douglas and nothing happened to this car in the movie! Michael Douglas in the movie War of the Roses with this car. The third car, a 1960 model, was also a real car, which was destroyed by the GMC driven by Kathleen Turner in the movie, when she drives over the car with Michael Douglas inside. This car was restored two years after the movie. It is also currently known still in the USA, just converted to left-hand-drive, repainted later to British Racing Green and restored into a Super Sport specification and raced!

Indeed, the Morgan Plus 4 is not only a beautiful car that remains almost unchanged after the first “flat rad” model, but since the year 1953 until today you can’t tell for sure which model year it is. But the Morgan Plus 4 was also a very successful racer, the Plus 4 Super Sport has won its GT class under 2.000 ccm at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1962!

We should turn back to the second movie car, the 1965 model, currently on the sale. According to the Morgan Motor Registry the car was dispatched in a Green exterior color with a Black PVC interior. The car currently keeps the colors from the movie. Although the last renovation took place already long time ago and the car wears some signs of the time passed since then, the car still keeps its original condition since the time it starred in the movie.

It is also a quite rare model, of all types of the first generation between 1950 and 1969 only 4.584 examples were built and with only a part of that still existing it is not easy to find one. Especially not in the continental Europe and especially not from a Hollywood movie.

You can find the letter from the MMC registry an almost 30 year old letter from California Exotics confirming the Studio information this car starred in the movie, an older pictures from the time the car was in the Netherlands and the current pictures taken just a couple of weeks ago.

An article about the car appeared in the Automobile Revue Magazine last May saying about the car:
“The first drive with the closed leather roof suggests that even the interior does not look so, it is quite comfortable with enough room. The leather seats are not holding the body in the turns, the four speed manual transmission is not very precise and it is needed to be synchronized with the clutch and use also some power.

We are cruising a half empty town during a spring late afternoon. As we arrive into a colony in front of a under construction crossing, it shows how the car does not like slow drawing forward and it does not feel very comfortable. But when there is a possibility to accelerate, the four cylinder engine shows his characteristics with a nicely sharp sound, the steering feels light and gently, only the precise shifting is still a little challenging. The engine revs very pleasantly and willingly from the lower revs thanks to the expressive torque and you can feel how it pushes the car forward. Of course, it also helps that the car does not weight even 900 kilograms.

The drive in a traditional roadster from such a likeable carmaker is a very pleasant experience. And it does not matter if the steering wheel was in Michael Douglas hands before yours. The car would deserve some care especially around the chassis, but it works pretty nicely. And it reminds us, why the Morgan brand is so exceptional.”
